ACTIVITIES JUST GONE
In August, Tree hollows, nestboxes and their occupants was our presentation in the Kinglake Community Centre on Kinglake Market Day. Presenter Ron Litjens talked about tree hollows and nesting boxes for shelter, breeding, and for protection from predators, illustrating his talks with amazing photography.
Afterwards participants could browse the variety of produce and have lunch at the market.
Tree Project plants continue to be distributed free to KLG members and planted at several of our tree planting events (see photos of National Tree Day at Tooheys Road, Pheasant Creek). Landcare members also regularly assist Kinglake Historical Society with presentations to school students at the Kinglake Heritage Centre including syllabus attention on local emergency responses and land management to secondary school students.

COMING UP
Presentation about Nocturnal Wildlife Living in Your Backyard at KRNH followed by a short spotlight walk on Friday 20 September at 6.30-8.30 pm.
This event is part of the Rural Skills program funded by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) that has supported the delivery of a range of courses and workshops. These have included fencing, pest plant and animal control, using a chainsaw safely, plant identification, pruning, plant propagating and many more.
See the KRNH article for information about two more this month- backyard chickens and snake safety.
An ongoing project in partnership with Birdlife Australia is “Boxes for Birds: a Kinglake community nest box project”. This involves the installation of 85 nest boxes on members’ properties and public reserves. Nest boxes purchased from LaTrobe University have been funded by the Victorian State Government through the Victorian Landcare Program. Further boxes will be constructed at a workshop early next year.
